A History of Thomas Street from Whiskey to Revolution

Join me, Alan Swaine, live on a Virtual Tour exploring the history of Dublin's Thomas Street. Learn how the murder of an archbishop would give its name to the street. As well as this, we will explore the rise and fall whiskey distilling in the area and touch on the Great Whiskey Fire of 1875. Finally, we will discuss the revolutionary history of Thomas Street from the capture of Lord Edward Fitzgerald to the public execution of Robert Emmet. Alan graduated from Liberties College with his qualification in National Tour Guiding in June 2020.

Monira Al Qadiri is a Kuwaiti artist who creates works that explore gender, politics and petro-cultures. Her works often draw upon personal experiences. The Craft is an exploration of her experience growing up in the 1980s Americanised Kuwait. Interlacing biography, fantasy and science fiction the short film reimagines the last thirty years of Gulf history and the closing stages of the American Century as a series of childish fictions involving a succession of alien encounters.

Finglas Heritage Trail – Digital Learning Project.

The Finglas Heritage Trail is a project that was developed in 2013 by local interest groups and Dublin City Council. Since that time a number of additional places of interest and new historical additions have been developed in Finglas. For this reason Dublin City Council made a decision to update the trail leaflet and use heritage trail drone footage to reignite the heritage project and promote the trail as a digital learning tool for local groups, schools and visitors to the area. The RCSI Centre for Positive Psychology and Health presents a new online public course entitled ‘The Science of Health and Happiness’.
During this 10-week course, we will explore how the principles of positive psychology and lifestyle medicine can be used to improve our health and optimise our well-being. We will cover a range of topics including whole person health, strengths, mindfulness and meditation, and obstacles and paths to happiness.
Launching on 3 March, this is a practical course, consisting of 10 pre-recorded online lectures, presented at a rate of one per week. No fees are required and the course is open to anyone who is interested in improving their health and happiness.
Registration will remain open for the duration of the course. Once registered, you will receive an email with further details and the link to access the course content.
